Alaska Railroad'south "Danny" retiring
Author: trainjunkie
While the show was a disaster, many will call up that in the kickoff season of Railroad Alaska that aired on Destination America, the principal characters were "Danny and Beast". The show was never very good in my opinion and it really went downhill the following season when the producers recast the faces of the railroad with a new crew. If nothing else, Danny and Animal were pretty entertaining even though the stories they had to portray were all dramatized beyond reality, and beyond their command.
Only I digress.
Tonight the south freight will be called in Fairbanks (on the line-up at present for 20:00) and Danny will climb on board with No. ane seniority engineer Frank "Shep" Sheppard, and he will make his concluding run afterwards 36 years of service on the Alaska Railroad, retiring in Anchorage at the end of the run.
Daniel Forsman originally worked for the BN, out of Alliance IIRC. His got his brakeman seniority date on the Alaska Railroad in 1980, and took his promotion to conductor 2 years later. He never moved into the correct-hand seat, choosing to piece of work the ground when we still had a choice. He volition retire in the number 4 spot on our trainman'south seniority roster.
Danny is a blast to piece of work with and an outstanding trainman. He has forgotten more about railroading than most of usa will always know. I never stopped learning from him. His skill, humor, and wit volition be missed around the m role, not to mention his outstanding barista skills. You can always tell when he is effectually by the amazing odour of the java brewing in our breakroom at the Anchorage Operations Heart (AOC).
Cheers to your retirement "Danno"! Enjoy the adept life.
Here'south a network promo photo of Danny (L), Lynn "Fauna" Reitz on the correct, and SD70MAC No. 4005 serving as a properties in Anchorage Yard.

Trainjunkie, thanks for the update on Danny and the Beast. Sounds like they were good runway. It is a strange mixture of feelings and thoughts in your head to learn of people you have worked with exercise their final run and disappear off the property to rejoin the general public. As well bittersweet to break out the seniority roster printout and draw a line through a proper noun, and then count yourself one position higher. Rarely it is "Expert riddance to that *&^%$#," but mostly information technology is, "Oh man, I wish him well, he made it." Well-nigh rails making a career out of it are the better halfs. I similar to think of a argument made by a fellow hoghead when working with a swain professional or when they retire. He says, "Yeah, he is(was) Good People."
